How to Confirm a Gold Reversal After a Sweep

The sweep tells you where the trap was. It does not tell you the reversal has started. The gap between those two things is where most traders lose money, entering too early on a wick that keeps going. This is the sequence that closes that gap.

Sweep, then confirmationXAUUSD illustration
Price sweeps the low, closes back inside, breaks the last minor high (change of character), then retests and continues. Each step is a layer of proof before entry.

Why the sweep is not the entry

A liquidity sweep is evidence that a level got trapped. It is not evidence that price is now going the other way. Gold can sweep a low, pause, and then keep falling if the higher timeframe wanted lower all along. Entering on the sweep itself means betting on a reversal that has not shown up yet.

Confirmation is simply a set of checks that turn a maybe into a setup. Each one you add lowers the chance you are catching a knife, at the cost of a slightly later entry. That trade-off is almost always worth it on XAUUSD.

The confirmation sequence

Run these in order after a sweep:

Sweep to close back inside to change of character to retest. Skip a step and you are guessing. Follow it and you are reacting to proof.
Close, CHOCH, retestthree layers of proof
The sweep closes back inside, price breaks the minor high to confirm a change of character, then retests that level and holds before the move extends.

Where the entry and stop go

Once the retest holds, the entry is at that level with the stop placed beyond the sweep wick. This gives you the best of both worlds: you are in near the origin of the move, and your invalidation is clean. If price trades back below the swept low, the reversal idea is simply wrong and you are out for a small, defined loss.

Target the opposite liquidity: the nearest obvious high where buy-side orders rest. Liquidity moves toward liquidity, so the other side of the range is the natural objective.

Let the gates confirm it for you

This sequence is exactly what a confirmation engine automates. BTL Magic will not call a reversal on the sweep alone. It waits for the close, the structure shift and its own gates to line up, and it holds WAIT until they do. If you want the discipline without watching every candle, that is what the tool is for.

Frequently asked questions

How many candles should I wait after a sweep?

There is no fixed number. Wait for events, not candles: the close back inside, then a change of character. On H1 that might be one to three candles; the trigger is the structure shift, not the clock.

What is a change of character in this context?

It is the first break of a recent minor swing in the new direction. After a sweep of a low, price breaking the last minor high is the change of character that says the short term trend has flipped up.

Can I enter on the sweep candle itself?

You can, but it is the highest risk version because nothing has confirmed. If you do, use a smaller size and a stop beyond the wick, and accept that many of those entries will be knives that keep falling.

Does this work the same for sweeps of highs?

Yes, just mirrored. A sweep of an obvious high that closes back down, followed by a change of character to the downside and a retest that holds, confirms a bearish reversal.
